Will a 1/3″ color camera work just as well for a Laser Tag system as a 1/2″ color camera would?

I am trying to make a Laser Tag system like above.
Can I use a 1/3″ color camera instead and get the same results? Why would a 1/2″ work so much better? The camera has to pick up a green laser pointer on a wall at night from about 40 feet away for a 25 foot projection.

I’m not sure. You need the camera to see what you’re doing. If you have a camera with a small sensor, it won’t be as sensitive to light so the system might have to operate slower and it will effectively have a little higher magnficiation (less field of view) so you might have to project the beam in a narrower confine. To answer your question, yes it should work but I’ve never tried anything like this.
