You definitely want to be that teammate that simply shines with professionalism.

So to begin with, be sure to avoid the most common mistakes in the workplace.

1) Constantly showing up for work late and having poor excuses

2) Using your cell phone at work or using the company’s phone for personal use

3) Checking your personal email and surfing the internet

4) Having and showing a bad attitude

5) Bringing your personal life to the office

6) Not showing interest in your current responsibilities

7) Not being a team player

5) Supporting co-workers on projects or helping with technology if you are savvy

In fact, for permanent employees or consultants, even when things aren’t quite going “right” you can turn that into an opportunity for communication and relationship building. For instance, not being able to meet a deadline – It’s always important to keep supervisors and teammates in the loop if something is more difficult than you thought it would be, or if other projects get in your way and take priority. Supervisors and teammates alike respect when someone’s honest and communicative with them on workflow and benchmarks. And even thought they may be disappointed – or even annoyed – it’s far better to let them know before the dreaded deadline is missed than to show up at the 11th hour and throw everyone off schedule.
