What is the ‘DIGITAL PROJECTION’ (of movies)? .How does it enhance movie viewing experience?

As a projectionist of 5 years, this is near and dear to my heart. My theater just purchased a digital projection unit, and I would be glad to tell you the difference. A normal 35mm film projector works a lot like a cassette tape. The film passes in front of an intense light, which is projected onto the screen you are watching- it shows 24 frames a second. If a hair gets on the print, or a frame is removed, or a scratch developes you will see this on the screen. The sound is built into the film, so that can be affected as well. In digital the movies are on hard drives, so they cannot be altered as in a scratch or anything of the sort. The computer they are loaded in projects the image, which has a much higher resolution than even the best HDTVs through an extremely bright light the changes the picture internally by combining blue, red, and green to give you what you see. The sound is also perfect since it can’t be altered as in film. The one drawback is that the picture is so clean that digital effects look like they are from a video game because the image is too good. In short that is the difference, any other question about film vs. digital, let me know.
